Our Doctors

Dr. Michael Waterman, Dr. Steven Ohlbaum and Dr. John Van Slyke are Doctors of Optometry, licensed to diagnose and treat vision disorders and diseases of the eye.


Dr. Michael Waterman earned his doctorate from The State University of New York College of Optometry in 1989, following his undergraduate studies at Utica College. He served his primary care internship at The Wilson Health Center in Rochester, and an ocular disease internship at The University Optometric Center in New York. Dr. Waterman has served his community as a mentor of Utica College students and Oneida/Madison County BOCES. He is a member of The American Optometric Association, New York State Optometric Association, and is Past President of The Mohawk Valley Optometric Society. Dr. Waterman has particular interest and expertise in the fitting of bifocal contact lenses, and has served as a clinical researcher in a contact lens study sponsored by Ciba Vision.


Dr. John Van Slyke. earned his Doctorate in Optometry from The Pennsylvania College of Optometry following his undergraduate studies at Utica College.   He served his general Optometry internship at The Eye Institute in Philadelphia, and an ocular disease internship at a specialty glaucoma and cataract clinic in Johnstown, New York.  With over thirty years of experience in Optometric practice in the Utica area, Dr. Van Slyke has particular expertise in cataract and glaucoma management, and has also earned his  post-graduate certification in treatment of ocular disease. He is a member of The American Optometric Association, New York State Optometric Association, and Mohawk Valley Optometric Society.


Dr. Steven Ohlbaum earned his doctorate from The Pennsylvania College of Optometry in 1991, after earning his bachelor's degree from Oswego State University of New York. He completed internships at The Eye Institute in Philadelphia, The Manchester New Hampshire Veterans Administration Hospital, and a private Ophthalmology office in Warwick, Rhode Island. In addition to seeing patients at the New Hartford office, Dr. Ohlbaum is currently on staff at The Rome Veterans Administration Outpatient Clinic. He is a member of The American Optometric Association, New York State Optometric Association, and is currently the Vice President of The Mohawk Valley Optometric Society. Dr. Ohlbaum specializes in pediatric and infant eye care, in addition to general optometry.
